Today’s Card
Five of Swords (Upright)

Five swords are fanned out across a beautiful bright blue sky. Pearly white clouds are illuminated, and just beneath the gathered points of the five swords is a gorgeous iridescent dragonfly, a symbol for the element of air, the Faery realm, and illusion. Five faeries fly merrily around the swords, uncaring of their sharp edges and any possible danger. But what do you suppose is the most dangerous aspect of this card, the sharp edges of the swords or the possible trickery of the fae? This card shows that your pride was hurt, but it’s not fatal; do not overreact. You may feel embarrassed at the moment, but most of what you are so humiliated about is an illusion. The dragonfly represents a need to gain a new perspective and to make a change. The faeries encourage you to learn to laugh at yourself a bit, to see through others’ trickery, and to keep moving forward.

Meanings

When the Five of Swords appears in a reading, it is a signal that the querent is feeling humiliated and embarrassed. This is only a partial defeat, and they are still in control. Don’t give up! Shift things around and look for more possibilities. Allow the element of air to bring some fresh air and a new perspective into your life. Heed the message of the dragonfly and see through the illusions of others. Transform your life into something bright and wonderful.

Keywords: Embarrassment, illusion, trickery. Learn to laugh at yourself and keep going forward.

Reversed: Humiliation, carrying a grudge, conflict with a domineering person.
